| Throughout the year, the choir attends many social events and competitions: |
| |
| Local Mods
|
|
|
| We take part in Mod Competitions throughout Scotland. In the past few years we have sung regularly at local Mods in Stirling, Aberfeldy, and Mull, though we are always keen to travel to other locations whenever possible. Local Mods are generally held on Saturdays in May, June and September and, depending on locality, may involve an overnight stay. |
| |
| Royal National Mod |
| The choir takes part in the choral competitions at the Royal National Mod in October every year. The full Choir competes in the Puirt a Beul and Lovat & Tullibardine competitions, and we normally try to enter the separate Ladies' and Mens' Choir competitions as well. |
| |
| All these competitions take place on the Friday of Mod Week - we travel to wherever the Mod is being held on the Thursday evening and stay over until the Saturday. |
| |
| Concerts/Performances: |
In addition to the competitions we often perform at a range events. In recent years the choir have performed at:
- Scottish Parliament
- Cruise Liners (including the world famous QE II)
- Edinburgh International Conference Centre
- TV appearances
- The Edinburgh International Festival Fringe
- The Royal Highland Show
We are also often invited to make guest appearances at weddings, church services and other social gatherings. |
| |
| Workshop Days/Weekends |
Occasionally 'workshop' days or weekends are organised, to enable members to devote more time to practising both singing and Gaelic. We also use workshop days to learn about other aspects of the culture.
|
| |
| Social Events |
| We enjoy our fun as much as the singing and organise frequent social evenings. Apart from our regular post practice drinks in Bennetts Bar (Tollcross) after the practices on Thursday evenings, we run three or four fund-raising céilidhs during the year, at which we dance the night away to our very own céilidh band. In addition, the Choir and individual members usually perform (if they can get their breath back!). We also hold the occaisional quiz night and weather permitting, BBQs. |
| |
| Proceeds from all social events help to subsidise the costs to members of performing at the local and National Mods. |
